Born in the U.S., Freya Vass danced from 1982-1997 with the Tulsa Ballet Theater, Ballet Nacional de España, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, Salzburger Landestheater, and as a guest artist with the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and the Theater des Westens. Her career includes further engagements as a ballet mistress, teacher, and choreographer for companies and schools in Germany, Austria, Norway, and the U.S.

Freya was The Forsythe Company’s dramaturg and production assistant from 2006-13 and has also been a dramaturg/choreographic assistant for the Salzburger Landestheater and the Corpus Ensemble of the Royal Danish Ballet. She collaborated with David Dawson on his Giselle in 2007-8 and his Romeo and Juliet in 2021-22, both at the Semperoper Dresden.

Currently a lecturer and dance researcher at the University of Kent as well as a freelance dramaturg, she holds a Ph.D. in Dance History and Theory.
