Affairs of the Heart is an opportunity to experience the very special connection that exists between music and dance, to ‘see’ the body as music. This is a way that we can all become the melody, and we can all become the dancer. Broad, expansive, and universal, Marjan Mozetich’s score is music full of beautiful rhythms and pulse that simply make you want to dance. This title suggests a story of the heart, a journey, and all the emotions the heart must experience throughout a lifetime. The dancers on stage visualise the energy of the heart, and show what it feels like to be part of this heart, to experience the passion, the love or the peace. The heart has it’s rhythm like music: allegro, legato, adagio, and together all of these different aspects support each other.

“I imagined the heart as a person, and how this heart could somehow show the effects or patina of all those emotions, dark and light, as colour and movement. I am trying to visualize this heart as dance, full of spirals and vortexes, with all those emotions onstage, and with each dancer creating a journey for their own heart, as immediate responses to the music of the emotions that are happening in the moment, or a collected string of emotions that could possibly show us in some way the story of our souls.
This is a piece is about love itself. These “Affairs of the Heart” are an ode to love. It is a sonnet of love. It is joyful, it’s passionate, it’s fiery. It’s alive. It is a celebration of being.”
